As a 5th generation Californian, I love our state. My parents were educators, came from different church backgrounds, and modeled curiosity, creativity, and unity over division or uniformity. I’ve lived in small towns and urban zones in both parts of California. My education (Biola U, BS in Biology/Talbot, MDiv/Fuller, DMin in Leadership) featured both progressive and conservative voices. I hike, surf, bike, and play both kinds of golf. Birding, mushroom foraging, and tree identification interest me, too. I’ve worked in Christian Camps, in large and small churches, and a few non-profits. The variety inspires me to keep meeting people and exploring places, since I learn so much along the way. As a result, I find that I usually have something in common with most people…whether it is a shared joy, a mutual sorrow, or both. And I really love good Mexican food…one of the many reasons I’m grateful for Maria, my wife.
The heart of SoulPraxis
One of my most formative ministry experiences was in my 20’s, serving as the Men’s Staff Counselor at Ponderosa Lodge/Mount Hermon. Coaching, training, listening and challenging these college leaders who were ministering to high school students was incredibly fulfilling and used all aspects of the person God created me to be. Starting the ministry of SoulPraxis many years ago was a formalizing of a similar goal: to develop, train and care for Christian leaders. I am at my best when I can help others be at their best. I’m excited to bring SoulPraxis back and continue to have a focused investment in the lives of ministry and business leaders.
